For newcomers to the game, Grit and Valor – 1949 is a tactical roguelite set in an alternate history World War II. The evil Axis forces dominate, and Europe is on its knees—you alone are humanity’s last hope. Take command of an elite Mech Squadron in thrilling battles—think fast, take a stance, and prepare to liberate Europe and the world.
When we started working on the game, we always felt it would be a perfect fit for virtual reality (VR). We were thrilled when our sister studio, nDreams, offered to collaborate with us on the project, bringing over 10 years of experience working on titles for the original PlayStation VR and PS VR2. We’d love to tell you what makes this experience so unique.
Become the Commander
VR allows you to step into the perspective of different roles and characters—and what better role than playing as a general commanding your army from the war room? We’ve seen this scene in countless films—it’s tense, dramatic, and thrilling. Stepping into VR, directing and overseeing from above the battlefield, makes the scale of your decisions—and your pursuit of victory—feel much grander.
A Completely New Perspective on Strategic Warfare
The game’s visual style and perspective were originally inspired by tabletop war games, including a pictorial art style where miniature mech units almost appear hand-painted. Combined with virtual reality (VR), this unique perspective creates the feeling of playing with a battlefield diorama, enhanced by the magic of your units springing to life—lean in to watch them instantly animate or pick up units to examine them closely.
Going further, combining this perspective with the immediacy of PS VR2 Sense controllers offers mouse-like precision while adding the tactile sensation you’d experience in real life. From headsets to headset rumble, the game fully harnesses the power of PlayStation VR2 to deliver a visually stunning and immersive experience.
Regroup, Rebuild, and Redeploy in a Full Campaign
Building on the original PS5 game, we’ve enabled players to access the full campaign in VR. Set out to liberate Europe through a series of missions, but remember: if your Command Vehicle is destroyed, the mission ends. Regroup at the Resistance Base, rebuild and upgrade your squad, and reposition. Different units and upgrades allow for countless strategic approaches and opportunities for your next incursion.
Additionally, purchasing the game grants access to both PS5 and PS VR2 versions, allowing you to play the campaign on PS VR2, PS5, and even PS Portal. It’s perfect for quick couch sessions on the TV or immersive VR sessions.
