Red Dead Online Gets Surprising New Content With Undead Missions

In 2022, Rockstar ended the release of new content for Red Dead Online.

At the time, the statement said the following:

Over the past few years, we have been steadily moving more development resources towards the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series – understanding more than ever the need to exceed player expectations and for this next entry to be the best it can be – and as a result, we are making some changes to how we support Red Dead Online.

Firstly, with new and seasoned players engaging in the wealth of activities already added to this incredibly rich world, including Specialist Roles, story-based cooperative missions, competitive Showdown Modes, and much more, we will continue to showcase these unique additions through monthly Red Dead Online events as we move forward, so players of all levels can enjoy everything the vast frontier has to offer.

Alongside seasonal special events and experience improvements – plus other changes to enhance and maintain a healthy Red Dead Online environment – we plan to build upon existing modes and add new Telegram Missions this year, instead of delivering major themed content updates like in previous years, and we will continue to highlight and share the creative efforts of our Red Dead community at every opportunity via the Newswire and beyond.

Although no new content was released, the game still received monthly updates, showing that Rockstar hadn’t completely abandoned the title.

That said, the July update for Red Dead Online will bring new content. Here’s what’s scheduled:

Author Theodore Levin needs your help to investigate the bizarre and inexplicable in Strange Tales from the West – a new set of four chilling Telegram Missions available tomorrow (July 1st) in Red Dead Online. Encounter swarms of the Undead, rebellious automatons, swamp beasts, and more by collecting Mr. Levin’s letter at any Post Office or from your Camp Lockbox, or by starting Telegram Missions from the Player Menu.

As the text indicates, we’ll have missions featuring the Undead, which should remind players of the Red Dead Redemption expansion, Undead Nightmare.

The reason for Rockstar’s change of plans is unknown, but the supposed Red Dead Redemption 2 version for PS5 (and Xbox Series) may have influenced the decision.

Rockstar will provide full details of these new features in tomorrow’s, July 1st, Newswire update.
