Yesterday’s (4th) PS5 system software update quietly fixed a long-standing issue affecting both the base console and PS5 Pro.
Both PS5 and PS5 Pro had been suffering from a VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) stuttering flaw impacting multiple games. The issue primarily occurred in titles supporting 120Hz VRR with unlocked frame rates, causing noticeable frequent stutters after approximately 20 minutes of gameplay. This problem has now been resolved.
Following the update, affected players reported the issue no longer occurs. Digital Foundry independently contacted Sony, with a company representative confirming to the channel that the fix was implemented.
Sony did not mention the resolution in its official patch notes, however.
Sony PR contacted me yesterday to confirm that – as already detected by some – the latest PlayStation firmware resolves the VRR hiccup issue. When I find a spare moment, I'll test it out.
