In a post on social media platform X, Mark Cerny from PlayStation and Jack Huynh, Senior Vice President of Compute and Graphics at AMD, announced and reinforced the technology giants’ partnership in developing new tools, techniques, and products for the future of entertainment.
Dubbed Project Amethyst—symbolized in the post by two pieces of amethyst representing each company—Huynh emphasized the joint collaboration and its future, built on two core pillars: designing hardware architecture optimized for machine learning workloads in gaming, and developing high-quality neural networks that push the boundaries of real-time game graphics.
Huynh stressed that the co-engineering process is currently underway and evolving, which users might only see materialize in Sony’s next console—the PS6.
This isn’t just theory—it’s co-engineered reality. From hardware innovations to software breakthroughs, we’re delivering smarter, more efficient solutions like FSR 4 Super Resolution, and are now pioneering ML-based Frame Generation and Ray Reconstruction in FSR Redstone.
And this is just the beginning. There’s tremendous potential ahead, and we’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved so far. The future of gaming is bright—and we’re just getting started.
Grateful for the partnership, the friendship, and what lies ahead.
From the same source. Two branches. One vision.
My good friend and fellow gamer @cerny and I recently reflected on our shared journey — symbolized by these two pieces of amethyst, split from the same stone.
