During its panel at this year’s Anime Expo in Los Angeles, USA, CD PROJEKT RED announced it has reunited with studio TRIGGER to create a new independent 10-episode anime series set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe, titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2).
Attendees were invited to watch a livestreamed panel titled “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners – Behind the Scenes with the Creators,” featuring writer/producer Bartosz Sztybor and voice actors Emi Lo (Lucy Kushinada) and Zach Aguilar (David Martinez), alongside host Joey “The Anime Man” Bizinger and a special appearance by Cyberpunk: Edgerunners director Hiroyuki Imaishi.
After discussing the acclaimed anime’s legacy, production insights, and trivia, Sztybor announced the new collaboration between CD PROJEKT RED and animation studio TRIGGER for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. Alongside Imaishi, he exclusively revealed the anime’s official logo and key art.
Imaishi also used the occasion to officially pass the baton to Kai Ikarashi (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, SSSS.Gridman), who will make his directorial debut on Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. Ikarashi joined the panel via a recorded video message and presented a special “Director’s Voice” video sharing his creative vision for the series.
“David’s story may have concluded, but there’s still much to uncover in Night City. Having the legendary animation studio TRIGGER by our side again has us incredibly excited to deliver an intense, authentic chronicle of redemption and vengeance unlike anything we’ve done before,” said Sztybor, showrunner, writer, and producer of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. He’ll collaborate with lead character designer Kanno Ichigo (Promare, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners) and Masahiko Otsuka (Gurren Lagann, Promare), who will handle script adaptation.
The panel concluded with an invitation to an exclusive closed-door session featuring a new teaser during TRIGGER’s panel later that evening at the Peacock Theater.
Produced collaboratively by CD PROJEKT RED and animation studio TRIGGER, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is currently in production and scheduled for release on Netflix.
