Capcom has reaffirmed the importance of the Mega Man franchise and stated it continues to explore ways to revive the series.
While multiple collections of classic Mega Man titles have been released in recent years, entirely new entries in the series remain rare. Mega Man has not seen a new game since 2018’s Mega Man 11.
For the second consecutive year during the Q&A session of its annual general shareholders meeting, Capcom’s management team was questioned about the status of the Mega Man IP. The response reiterated that the company values the series and will continue exploring ways to release new titles (via VGC).
“The Mega Man series is one of our most important intellectual properties, and we are continuously considering ways to further develop it. However, we have no additional information to share at this time,” the company stated.
According to Capcom’s internal data, the Mega Man series has sold over 38 million units across its 36-year history. During the recent Q&A session, the company noted the series’ merchandise popularity.
“While we don’t disclose individual sales figures per IP, we receive a particularly high volume of inquiries about the Mega Man series from overseas markets,” it said. “We will continue focusing on further expanding this business.”
