Capcom Cancels Monster Hunter Wilds Event Amidst Developer Threats

Capcom has canceled a planned lecture on the development of Monster Hunter Wilds. This comes days after the company issued a statement addressing multiple direct threats made to Capcom staff regarding the game’s performance issues.

As reported by Automaton (via VGC), the lecture – originally titled “Monster Hunter Wilds Runs Smoothly! Everything You Need to Know About Optimization” – was scheduled for CEDEC, Japan’s largest game developer conference. The session aimed to discuss Capcom’s recent advancements in performance optimization.

However, after announcing the lecture and the performance issues introduced in Monster Hunter Wilds through the recently released Free Title Update 2, the developer faced such severe backlash on social media that it canceled the event. While Capcom hasn’t directly linked the cancellation to harassment, the timing of their statement suggests a connection.

Last Friday, the company released a statement declaring:

“We take customer feedback seriously as it’s essential for improving our products and services, and strive to enhance quality.”

“However, we’ve confirmed instances of libel, defamation, slander, intimidation, threats of business disruption, and harassment targeting specific executives and employees.”

“In serious cases, we may involve law enforcement or legal counsel to pursue criminal charges or other legal actions.”

While performance issues that triggered this harassment wave were largely fixed via a rapid patch, some players still report isolated problems in extreme cases.
