Rare has announced that paid custom servers are coming to Sea of Thieves next year.
Announced during the game’s first community showcase event (via VGC), Personal Seas – the game’s private paid servers – will arrive in Sea of Thieves in early 2026 according to Rare.
This feature will also grant players access to exclusive tools like the cinematic camera used to create game trailers. Specific pricing details haven’t been disclosed, but Rare acknowledged that maintaining this feature is expensive and will require a monthly fee.
The game’s seasonal model will also receive an update, as Rare admitted that the content pace has stagnated during recent seasons.
Starting with Season 17, each three-month season will be divided into three distinct objectives according to the developer. The first month will focus on “revitalizing the sandbox gameplay” and “shaking things up.” The season’s second month will center on live events, while the third will have a special community focus.
