News about the next Battlefield has been coming at a faster pace recently. With a major focus on extended testing and experimentation before its official announcement and release—largely to avoid the failures of previous titles—EA and DICE have leveraged communication with fans to clarify and announce updates about the game.
The latest controversy concerns the game’s classes. Unlike Battlefield 2042, which abandoned the franchise’s traditional class system and weapon restrictions (though much was adjusted post-launch over the years), the next Battlefield hasn’t clarified its approach, sparking debates among fans.
Regardless, the game’s official X account announced that the upcoming open Beta will feature separate playlists for players to experience both structures: class-restricted equipment and unrestricted equipment. It’s unknown whether this will carry over to the official launch or be maintained, but the franchise’s traditional fanbase prefers the restricted equipment class model, historically core to the series’ success.
Additionally, the open beta may arrive sooner than expected. An apparently unfinished post on the Portal mode page (via Insider Gaming) mentions August 4th as a date. A reveal of the beta or even the full game could precede this.
Open Weapons vs Closed Weapons
Why not both?
Starting at Open Beta players can choose official playlists with Signature Weapons locked to class, or not.
More to come.
