Assassin's Creed Shadows Hits 5 Million Players, Rainbow Six Siege X Struggles

Ubisoft announced “below expectations” financial results for its quarter and blamed the recently relaunched Rainbow Six Siege X.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows, meanwhile, continued to perform “in line with expectations” and recently surpassed 5 million unique players. Ubisoft hasn’t released an exact sales figure for the game, which is also offered through its Ubisoft+ subscription service.

In a statement (via IGN), Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot described the quarter as having “mixed results.”

Ubisoft attributed the shortfall to “temporary, but significant, disruptions” in player spending for Rainbow Six Siege X, its recently relaunched shooter, citing “technical pricing issues” that led to “a prepaid card pricing exploit that temporarily inflated virtual currency wallets” — now reportedly resolved.

“Q1 saw mixed results,” stated Guillemot. “Positively, Assassin’s Creed Shadows exceeded expectations with over 5 million unique players since launch, and Rainbow Six Siege X received highly positive player feedback for its improved gameplay and enhanced features, driving major engagement growth.”

“However, Rainbow Six Siege player spending faced temporary but significant headwinds from technical pricing issues, which we’ve now identified and fixed. Despite this one-time setback, the game’s growth potential remains strong with solid in-game activity and spending traction,” he concluded.
