Sirlin Games announced that Fantasy Strike no longer requires the “Core Pack” to play online Friend Matches.
Fantasy Strike is a free-to-play fighting game available on PS4, Switch, and PC. However, to access all features (such as Local Versus and Arcade), players must purchase the so-called “Core Pack”. Now, essentially all online play is accessible without the paid version.

Fantasy Strike has always been free in several ways: casual online play, ranked online play, offline training mode, vs. CPU mode, and with ALL characters permanently unlocked from day one—including the two new characters added post-launch.
Friend Matches were also always freely accessible, provided one player involved owned the Fantasy Strike Core Pack.
Starting today, we’re lifting that restriction; the free version of Fantasy Strike will let you play not only online in casual and ranked queues, but also in Direct Challenges (Friend Matches).
We thank everyone for their years of support for Fantasy Strike. If you’d like to keep supporting the game (and us!), consider purchasing the Core or Collector’s Packs; they include bonus content like Offline Versus, the story-driven Arcade mode, and awesome solo roguelike Boss Rush modes.
