Space Invaders Movie Gains Two New Writers Officially

According to the site Deadline, New Line has hired writers Ben Zazove and Evan Turner to script a Space Invaders film, inspired by Taito’s classic arcade game.

No details are yet available about the story they’re developing. Akiva Goldsman from Weed Road Pictures will produce alongside Safehouse Pictures partners Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell, with Greg Lessans and Rachel Wizenberg overseeing production for Weed Road, and Matt Schwartz overseeing production for Safehouse Pictures.

Writers Zazove and Turner are behind Officer Exchange, an action comedy in development at Amazon MGM Studios, produced by The Safran Company and starring John Cena. Their previous film, The Out-Laws (Meus Sogros Tão pro Crime) – an action comedy starring Adam Devine, Pierce Brosnan, and Ellen Barkin – debuted at number one on Netflix.

One of the most iconic arcade games in history and a pioneering title in the shooter genre, Space Invaders challenges players to defend Earth from an alien invasion by shooting down waves of invaders moving across the screen before they reach the ground. Tomohiro Nishikado developed the title, released by Taito in 1978.
