ININ Games announced Apidya’ Special, a 24-bit pixel remake of the side-scrolling shooter game Apidya, originally released for the Amiga in 1992. The game will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch, and PC via Steam in 2026.

Apidya’ Special is an authentic 24-bit pixel remake — no 3D models, no AI upscaling — just handcrafted pixels and passion.

Developed by the original team alongside a dedicated Apidya superfan who became a developer, Apidya’ Special is based on an abandoned 1990s console version, blending original elements with all-new pixel art, additional authentic sound effects, and remixed music. Legendary composer Chris Hulsbeck contributes an exclusive, completely rearranged soundtrack never before released.

Players can experience Apidya’ Special in widescreen with new parallax effects or switch to original Amiga 4:3 mode, which looks, plays, and sounds exactly like it did in 1992. Optional CRT effects with simulated shadow mask, scanlines, and phosphor glow recreate the authentic screen feel.

A cult classic cherished by European retro gamers for over three decades, Apidya’ Special is ready to bring its insect-fueled action to a new generation while offering veterans the most faithful and feature-rich version ever made.

      • Authentic Remake – Completely rebuilt from scratch; no emulation.
      • Two Visual Modes – Seamlessly toggle between widescreen HD or the original Amiga 4:3 presentation.
      • Exclusive Original Soundtrack by Chris Hulsbeck – Features new arrangements plus remixed and classic tracks.
      • Retro Visual Effects – Optional CRT shaders, phosphor glow, and authentic scanline simulation.
      • Expanded Worlds – Five diverse themed worlds (Meadow, Lake, Sewer, Cyber, Hive), each with up to five levels, 20 unique bosses, and hidden special stages.
      • New Surprises – Random in-game events like “Night Mode”, featuring new enemy sprites.
      • Cooperative Mode – Second player controls one of the support drones.
      • Accessibility Options – Modernized difficulties to make the game enjoyable for all generations (including the original developers).
