PATCH HIGHLIGHTS
SPECIAL COLLABORATIONS
Critical Role
For our second special collaboration, we’ve partnered with Critical Role to bring new content to Assassin’s Creed Shadows. This includes a free mission called “A Critical Encounter,” a new Ally to recruit, and a new trophy/achievement.
New Free Story Pack: “A Critical Encounter”
Rufino, an old friend of Tomiko and Heiji, calls in a lifelong debt after uncovering a deadly conspiracy. While working as a translator, he discovered evidence that a secret organization was hiring assassins to eliminate influential commoners.
He now calls upon Naoe and Yasuke to stop these assassins.
*Unlock Condition: Complete “The Blacksmith’s Path” and unlock Yasuke as a playable character. This questline begins at the Hideout.
- Reward: New Ally based on Rufino from Critical Role’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows One-Shot campaign, performed by Robbie Daymond. You’ll also receive a Hideout banner featuring Critical Role’s logo.
- New trophy/achievement: “A Critical Encounter,” unlocked after completing the mission series.
Alongside this collaboration, we’re releasing a Critical Role Weapon Pack inspired by Critical Role’s universe, available for purchase in the in-game store! This bundle includes 2 weapons for both characters: a Tanto and Katana for Naoe, plus a Kanabo and Teppo for Yasuke.
New Nightmare Difficulty Setting
We’re adding a new difficulty tier (Nightmare) bringing additional challenges to your journey. This mode impacts both combat and stealth, demanding greater tactical planning and heightened environmental awareness. Prepare for tougher enemies and a more intense overall experience.
Here’s a sample of changes you can expect in this new difficulty:
- Player defensive options are less effective, and enemies deal increased damage at all levels.
- For example: Perfect timing is now required for deflections – imperfect parries will only partially block incoming damage.
- Enemy AI is smarter, faster, and more aggressive in various situations, including detection.
- Example: Even when crouched, Naoe now creates some sound! And while in shadows, she can be spotted when moving!
- Example: Enemies will no longer be vulnerable to dodges or parries—only skills can put them in a vulnerable state.
- Combat resources (like Adrenaline, Rations, and Shinobi Items) are harder to obtain, making their usage more vital.
This is just a sample of Nightmare’s gameplay impacts. Share your most intense moments by posting clips on Discord or X using #AssassinsCreedShadows.
Toggle Headgear in Cutscenes
We’re pleased to deliver a highly requested feature: players can now choose to display head accessories—whether hoods, helmets, headbands, or others—during cutscenes. Your style can now shine in dialogue scenes too!
Find this option in Game Settings.
- Note: Headgear won’t display in cinematics or specific instances where scene rules override this setting (e.g., certain romance scenes).
Visual Effects Toggles
Players can now enable/disable specific VFX for further customization. This includes showing/hiding body loot markers, the player’s last known position, enemy special attack indicators, and more.
All options are accessible via the Interface settings menu.
Open World Alarm
We’ve expanded the Region Alert System—previously exclusive to Castles—to cover entire Provinces. Now, repeatedly attacking Civilian or Military units outside Castles may trigger an alarm, causing Guardian squadrons to hunt you across the open world.
Horse Camera Presets
You can now cycle through 3 camera presets while riding mounts (hold down on D-pad/’X’ key). Enjoy a more cinematic experience showcasing Japan’s beauty.
Ultra Low Specs for PC
We’re adding a new graphics tier: Ultra Low mode. This lets PC players with limited GPU specs experience improved framerates.
