In today’s State of Play, Koei Tecmo and developer Team Ninja announced Nioh 3, the new continuation of our dark fantasy action RPG series set in the turbulent historical period of Japan’s Sengoku era.
To celebrate the game’s announcement, we’re launching a free limited-time demo for Nioh 3 exclusively on PlayStation 5, available right now! Whether you’re a new warrior to the series or experiencing for the first time the deep and deadly combat that made Team Ninja famous, we hope everyone enjoys the satisfaction of securing victory in the face of constant death.
Face Evil as the Next Shogun
In Nioh 3, the protagonist is a young warrior destined to become the next shogun. Why does he dedicate himself to facing yokai? We’ll save those details for another time, but we can already reveal that during battles, players can now choose between two distinct combat styles: Samurai and Ninja.
The Samurai style features gameplay similar to previous Nioh titles. It introduces new actions like Mastery of Arts, which enhances martial arts power, and Deflect, allowing you to block enemy attacks at the last moment—creating intense, lethal face-to-face encounters.
Meanwhile, the Ninja style excels in swift movements like dodges and aerial actions, providing the advantage of attacking outside enemy range with situational “Ninjutsu” techniques. You can use abilities such as Mist (leaving a clone after attacking) and Evade (narrowly avoiding enemy strikes), both enabling you to deceive opponents while landing devastatingly fast back attacks.
You can switch between styles instantly at any time, playing through a narrative defined by the strong, agile, and brutal. Depending on enemy patterns and locations, some players may dynamically alternate between Samurai and Ninja techniques, while others might commit to a single style. Feel free to wield your preferred approach against the fiercest foes we’ve ever created!
An Open Field Full of Challenges
Beyond new combat styles, Nioh 3 also delivers an open field with unprecedented exploration freedom, paired with the signature tension and confrontations that define the series. Experience unexpected clashes with formidable yokai, explore suspicious villages filled with violent secrets, and endure the daunting trials of the Umbrasal. Brave these exciting yet hostile environments as you fight to survive the cursed realm!

The Nioh 3 demo is available now and playable until June 18! It’s not only a preview of our years of development but also a chance to share your feedback as we refine the definitive Nioh experience!
