Hello everyone, I’m Dylan from Q-Games. We’re excited to reveal the first gameplay images of the PS VR2 version of Dreams of Another, the newest title in the PixelJunk series, coming to PlayStation 5 and PlayStation VR2.
A Journey Through Dreams Shaped by Point Cloud Technology
Dreams of Another is a third-person action exploration game developed around the philosophical theme: “No creation without destruction.” Unlike traditional third-person shooters (TPS) where shooting destroys objects, here shooting materializes and creates from an abstract, fragmented world.
The game’s highlight is its use of point cloud rendering, where space is visualized as a collection of floating particles. On PS VR2, this technique truly shines, enveloping players in a dreamlike world where their body seems to dissolve into the environment. The result is a mysterious and deeply immersive sensation, like traveling inside a dream. Thanks to VR, players can physically feel present in these particle-composed worlds.
A Mysterious Tale of The Pajama Man and The Wandering Soldier
At the heart of Dreams of Another lies a surreal journey through a dream world led by two characters: The Pajama Man and The Wandering Soldier. But this world isn’t only inhabited by people: trees swaying in the wind, lonely doors, gently glowing streetlights, and all manner of objects come alive through witty dialogue that casts peculiar light on human societal issues. Through VR, they feel tangibly present before you, deepening immersion.
Seamlessly Switch Between First- and Third-Person Perspectives
In the PS VR2 version, players can toggle between the third-person perspective used in the PS5 version and a special VR-exclusive first-person mode. Third-person view emphasizes the game’s concept and narrative, allowing players to watch the storyline unfold while observing their characters. In contrast, first-person mode offers heightened immersion, placing the point cloud world directly before your eyes and enabling close inspection of every detail.
We recommend using the DualSense controller for third-person mode and PS VR2 Sense controllers for first-person. Either way, you’ll experience this particle-built shimmering dream as if physically inside it.
Eye-Tracking Camera Control in Third-Person View
The third-person mode utilizes eye-tracking, allowing players to shoot simply by looking in a direction. This maintains the intuitive feel of the standard PS5 version while making gameplay faster and smoother. Both regular and VR versions use haptic feedback and adaptive triggers for a unique Dreams of Another experience, further deepening immersion.
A Variety of Peculiar Weapons and Items
As players traverse the point cloud-built dreamscape, they’ll encounter entities called Auras. These require various weapons—submachine guns, grenades, rocket launchers—to overcome, unlocked through progression. The rocket launcher delivers particularly thrilling gameplay as its immense power scatters vast point cloud areas, instantly materializing impact zones.
Grenades, meanwhile, offer tense strategic gameplay, requiring careful timing to detonate near Auras. VR uniquely amplifies the tension and impact of Aura encounters, making them more direct and exhilarating. You’ll also discover curious items like someone’s wedding ring or a spent fuse that’s served its purpose, adding another layer of exploration and wonder.
Stay tuned for more updates on Dreams of Another as we approach its PS5 and PS VR2 release later this year!
