1047 Games launched Splitgate 2 at the beginning of last month. Now, less than two months later, the developer has decided to “relaunch” it and return it to beta status. It is also taking Splitgate 1 offline and laying off 45 employees.
Splitgate 2 will remain playable and will still receive the promised Chapter 3 update and some bug fixes, but beyond that, there will be no new developments until early 2026, when the studio promises to return with “big and sweeping changes.”

To the Splitgate community,
We believe in Splitgate 2. This game means everything to us – it’s been our life for nearly 10 years, starting in our dorm room, and we’re more committed than ever to delivering the amazing experience you deserve.
We heard your feedback and agree: we launched too early. We had ambitious goals for Splitgate 2 and, in our eagerness to share it with you, we overextended ourselves. We rushed certain features, made some silly mistakes, and most importantly, didn’t deliver the polished, portal-filled chaos you loved.
So we’re returning to beta. We’ll be heads down until early next year, rebuilding core parts of the game to capture the spirit of what made Splitgate special. This means reworking progression from the ground up, adding more portals to our maps, simplifying monetization, refocusing on the classic modes you asked for, and much more that we’ll share soon.
Now more than ever, we need your help. We’re returning not only to our roots in what we built, but in how we built it – with you. That means more playtests, more surveys, more listening, and truly prioritizing the community. Our goal is combining the DNA of the first game with the best upgrades from the second.
Rebuilding the core experience isn’t a quick fix; it’s a long-term commitment. To give ourselves time to build the Splitgate you deserve, we made the incredibly difficult decision to reduce select roles and reallocate resources to focus on this overhaul. This is heartbreaking. They’re our teammates and friends, and they helped build what we have today. They’re receiving severance and outplacement assistance, and we’re committed to doing everything we can to aid their transition. We hope to bring them back when possible.
In an effort to retain as many team members as possible, we’re also shutting down original Splitgate servers in a month. While we’d love to keep servers online indefinitely, they’ve cost us hundreds of thousands over the past two years, and we must prioritize our team. Like us, we know this game means a lot to many of you, so we’re exploring options for offline or peer-to-peer matches. And when we return, we plan to have a dedicated experience in Splitgate 2 that fulfills the original’s promise.
Meanwhile, Splitgate 2 remains playable, and we’ll continue rolling out Chapter 3 plus high-priority fixes and changes. We hope you’ll keep playing and supporting the game. As always, keep sending your feedback.
We’ve faced hard days and made many mistakes, but we’ve learned a lot and are more determined than ever to make Splitgate the best it can be. Splitgate has been our life for 10 years and we wouldn’t have it any other way. We have work to do, but we aren’t giving up.
We love this game and this community too much to quit. So we won’t.
See you in the arena,
Ian and Nicholas
