Last month, 1047 Games announced that Splitgate 2 would return to beta in response to community concerns about the game’s condition. Alongside this news, plans had existed to entirely discontinue the original Splitgate, but the studio has now announced it will transition the game to a peer-to-peer hosting model starting August 29.
The announcement directly references discussions around the “Stop Killing Games” campaign, adding that “[we] stand with players who lose access to their favorite titles. We don’t want our community to lose access to theirs.” That said, some features will be lost starting August 29, such as official servers and online leaderboards, the Battle Pass, and achievements/trophies, but players will still be able to download the game for free on Steam, PS4, and Xbox and continue playing.
1047 Games is also unlocking all cosmetic items for free and adding over a dozen never-before-seen and in-development maps. The game’s Race mode and its map maker will also remain accessible, but players will need to find others hosting their favorite maps to play them.
