Game Science has announced the single-player action RPG Black Myth: Zhong Kui, the next game in the Black Myth series following Black Myth: Wukong, for “traditional console platforms” and PC. Specific platforms will be confirmed at a later date. The release window has yet to be announced.
It’s worth noting that the previous teaser, which we believed was for a DLC of Black Myth: Wukong (since the developer had confirmed an expansion pack previously), was actually for this announcement.

■ FAQ
Why announce Black Myth: Zhong Kui now?
Because it’s our tradition to report progress to players every August 20th – and this year is no exception.
However, since the project remains little more than an empty folder currently, we have nearly no gameplay scenes to share. To keep everyone focused on development, we chose to release a CG short to announce the new project’s launch.
Why Zhong Kui? Why not a Black Myth: Wukong sequel first?
Thanks to players’ unwavering support, our first Black Myth title landed safely. After completing the Destined One’s journey, we now aim to take an experimental step: creating more distinctive gameplay, tackling bolder features, and exploring fresh worldbuilding/narrative approaches.
Zhong Kui emerged as the natural choice from this aspiration. We’re confident we can implement refreshing changes while learning from past regrets in this new project. For fans of Black Myth: Wukong: the journey west doesn’t end here.
As Black Myth’s second installment, how does Zhong Kui compare to Wukong? What stays similar?
By name alone, both share ancient Chinese myths/folklore foundations. Genrewise, it retains the core single-player ARPG identity and business model.
However, you won’t play as a monkey this time. We’re still exploring concrete differences between both projects – sit tight! Let us wow you with the reveal before sharing details.
Is there a release timeframe?
Frankly, even Yocar has no idea. Follow our official site, YouTube, X, Facebook, and other platforms for updates.
Note: Our handle across platforms changes today from Black Myth: Wukong to Black Myth. All franchise news will now be shared under the unified Black Myth branding, requiring no action from you.
What platforms will Black Myth: Zhong Kui launch on?
PC and all major console platforms. Final details will be confirmed pre-launch.
Could you share story/gameplay details?
Hard to say… We haven’t even finished the outline.
The dev team is bursting with excitement to craft new narratives and inject fresh fun while ensuring Wukong players feel at home – and delivering the best possible surprises (sweat and smiles intensify).
