What if instead of learning about climate change through lectures, you could embark on a journey guided by your own choices? We’re thrilled to announce the launch of Climate Station, a new experience transforming decades of climate science into an interactive journey.
Developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment in collaboration with the UN’s Playing for the Planet Alliance, Climate Station turns complex data into an immersive, interactive experience. Whether you enjoy exploration, data analysis, or simply seek a completely unique experience, this free app—available today for PS5 and PS VR2—is your gateway to understanding the forces shaping our world.
Climate Station delivers a fluid, visually rich experience leveraging the same technological innovations used in hit games. On PS5, you can use the DualSense controller to navigate a fully interactive globe and delve deeper into weather events and data layers. On PS VR2, the experience becomes even more immersive, allowing you to handle Earth itself using PS VR2 Sense controllers.
You’ll interact with real scientific data, explore climate scenarios, and uncover the stories behind the numbers.
Climate Station begins with a guided tour. Completing each section unlocks new features to experience, explore, and reveal hidden climate stories through four distinct modes.
Timeline
Marvel at Earth’s breathtaking beauty in motion. Timeline presents a striking visual sequence of clouds and storms across seasons, creating the sensation of observing our planet from space. As the year progresses, wildfires, tropical storms, floods, and droughts emerge worldwide, accompanied by data on human impact and damages. Beyond isolated events, it reveals deeper patterns: cloud formations, storm tracks, greenhouse gases, and melting sea ice converge, showing Earth as a fragile, interconnected system.
Observations
Explore over a century of climate shifts with trusted data from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). An interactive globe displays temperature variations from 1901 to today, with illuminated 3D markers indicating changes: red for warming, blue for cooling. Click any marker for detailed records—from monthly data to long-term trends—including insights from your region. Access key global indicators like carbon dioxide (CO₂), ocean heat, and sea level rise for direct evidence of today’s climate emergency.
Projections
In Projections, explore five possible futures shaped by global emissions decisions—from rapid CO₂ cuts to unchecked emission growth. Through trusted IPCC models, witness how each path yields drastically different outcomes by 2100. Track escalating risks like extreme weather, droughts, floods, biodiversity loss, irreversible thresholds, and more. Monitor vital signs—sea levels, ocean heat, ice mass—in every scenario. Explore powerful visualizations of Earth at key moments to see how varying warming levels transform ecosystems, habitats, species, and critical systems, clarifying how today’s decisions define our future.
Explanation Archive
Access 90 minutes of expert-curated content delivered clearly and accessibly with rigorously verified facts. The Explanation Archive demystifies climate science—from extreme weather dynamics to scientific modeling—transforming complex ideas into clear, compelling insights for effortless understanding.
Climate Station invites us to comprehend climate complexities and deepen awareness. We hope you enjoy discovering your own climate story.
