Lars Wingefors, the executive and co-founder who oversaw Embracer Group’s turbulent acquisition spree and the subsequent mass layoffs, is set to step down as CEO and assume a new role.
Effective August 1st, Wingefors will leave the CEO position and is proposed to take on a new role as Executive Board Chair, focusing on “strategic initiatives, mergers and acquisitions, and capital allocation” (via VGC).
Phil Rogers, the current CEO of Crystal Dynamics and Eidos, will assume the role of Embracer Group CEO in August. He became Eidos CEO in 2008 and was CEO of Square Enix West from 2009 to 2022.
The replacement of Wingefors as CEO follows a period of painful course correction for Embracer Group, after several years of rapid expansion through mergers and acquisitions.
