Gran Turismo 7 Spec IV Update Will Roll Out in Two Parts This Year

Gran Turismo 7 will receive its free Spec IV update in two parts, with the first release planned for October 2026 and the second scheduled for December. The update will add 12 new cars, two circuits and several new activities, although the exact release days have not been announced.

The official PlayStation.Blog announcement says the split is necessary because of the number of changes included in Spec IV. Polyphony Digital president and Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi described the update as the beginning of preparations for the franchise’s 30th anniversary in 2027.

October’s portion will introduce Sportsland SUGO, six new cars and a Spec IV opening cinematic. It will also add Vintage, Car Concierge, Experience and Car Viewer features, alongside an increased Collector Level cap. The announcements do not identify the six October cars yet.

The December release will bring the remaining six cars and the Autumn Ring circuit. According to the official Gran Turismo announcement, that portion will also include Family mode, the next evolution of Gran Turismo Sophy and a new Power Pack difficulty level.

December is also when the newly announced multiplayer activities are currently listed to arrive. Shuffle Race is described as a luck-based event built around randomly selected cars. Online Drift Trial will let players test their drifting skills against competitors worldwide.

PlayStation’s official video uses the plural wording “Online Drift Trials” and “Shuffle Races” in its title, while the Gran Turismo announcement refers to the modes as “Online Drift Trial” and “Shuffle Race.” The announcements do not yet explain their scoring, matchmaking, rewards or progression systems.

More Spec IV information is scheduled to be revealed during Gran Turismo World Series Round 3 in Singapore on October 3, 2026. The event is scheduled to reveal more information about the October and December updates, while the exact release dates and additional mode details remain unconfirmed.

Gran Turismo 7 is available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The cited Spec IV announcements do not provide a feature-by-feature breakdown for either version, so platform parity for the update should not be assumed until Polyphony Digital publishes more information.
