Konami has announced that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will feature an online battle mode called “Fox Hunt.”

See the explanation from director Yu Sahara during the Konami Press Start broadcast:

Fox Hunt is a completely original online battle mode. While it shares the same universe as Metal Gear Solid Delta, the gameplay is entirely different. Many might think of Metal Gear Online when hearing about an online battle mode for the series, but Fox Hunt differs from Metal Gear Online.

We’ve received requests from past players asking to bring back Metal Gear Online. However, the player environment has drastically changed since then. We carefully considered what type of online battle mode we should create under current circumstances.

Drawing from Metal Gear’s signature “stealth”—especially the “camouflage” central to this game’s story and the “survival” theme—we’re focusing not just on gunplay but leveraging “hide-and-seek” and “discovery.” Constructing this concept of “Metal Gear-exclusive online battles” became a fresh challenge.

Unfortunately, we can’t reveal gameplay details yet, but we’re diligently developing Fox Hunt. We hope to share more specifics as development progresses.

Konami also confirmed that while the PlayStation 5 and PC versions of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater include the “Snake vs. Monkey” minigame with Ape Escape characters, the Xbox Series version features the minigame “Snake vs. Bomberman”.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater launches for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam on August 28.
