Pocket Pair, developer of Palworld and Craftopia, has announced that Never Grave: The Witch and The Curse, a side-scrolling action Metroidvania game with Roguelike elements, will launch for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Switch, and PC. The title was set to have early access on PC, but that idea was scrapped. A release date, however, has not been announced.

See the game’s description:

A Metroidvania x Roguelike game where you adventure with a cursed hat. Use various spells to destroy possessed enemies! Bring items back, build your own village, live your life, and strengthen your skills for the next battle! Supports multiplayer for up to 4 players.

Authentic 2D Action

Identify enemy attacks, battle with magic, and occasionally use the terrain to win! Dungeons like ruins and botanical gardens are procedurally generated and change with each playthrough. Obstacles and puzzles also await to block the player’s path in dungeons.

Possession System

Possess enemies using a cursed hat. Utilize unique abilities from possessed enemies to unlock new paths and gain battle advantages!

Rebuild a Ruined Village

Use materials collected in dungeons to clear debris from ruined villages, construct new facilities, and cultivate crops. Produce food and potions in the village to prepare for the next battle!

Multiplayer

Multiplayer support for up to four players. Summon friends from other worlds and conquer dungeons together!

Key Features

      • Refined, tactile character controls.
      • Possession system where hats enable you to take over enemies and use their unique abilities.
      • Traditional Japanese hand-drawn limited animation used for 2D character sprites.
      • Densely painted backgrounds with depth, as if traveling through a picture book or cutout world.
      • Unlock actions like double jump from artifacts to explore new areas.
      • Ever-changing playstyle depending on synergy between magic and item-related “traits”.
      • Intense battles against challenging bosses. Defeating them without taking damage requires more than just memorizing patterns…
