The 20-minute demo we played opens with Hugh and Diana apparently meeting for the first time. Hugh is injured, but to his surprise, this seemingly young child effortlessly restores him. After Hugh discovers Diana’s true nature, the duo teams up. With the android clinging to his spacesuit, Hugh’s mission becomes escaping the lunar station to reach Earth.
A distress signal activates aboard the station, unleashing frenzied security robots. This reveals Pragmata’s core mechanic: combat with a “hacking twist.”
Hugh’s weapons are virtually useless against Pragmata’s robotic enemies. Here’s where Diana shines: players multitask between aiming, shooting, and dodging with triggers while simultaneously “hacking” enemies using face buttons.
Initiating a hack displays a minigame on-screen where players complete Snake-like circuits on a grid from point A to B – all while evading attacks in the physical realm.
Capcom has crafted a tactical shooter demanding constant strategic decisions. Gunplay delivers satisfying heft, and weapons feature limited ammo before being discarded, forcing ammo conservation for tougher foes.
Movement feels deliberate and weighty: Hugh controls like a tank. Despite jump and glide abilities, he’s no supersoldier – his vulnerability amidst android threats is palpable.
Collectible power-ups enhance hacking minigames. One adds circuit nodes that boost final damage; players can skip these to save for stronger enemies.
Enemies featured hacking minigames of varying complexity – smaller grids for drones versus sprawling circuits for mechs. The demo climaxed with an unmet Metal Gear-style boss… we half-expected a Sudoku puzzle to appear!
