PS5 Production for US Market Moved Out of China by Sony

Sony CFO Lin Tao states that they have moved production of PS5 consoles sold in the U.S. out of China to combat American tariffs.

They also plan to shift production of accessories sold in the U.S. out of China by the end of September 2025.

“For game consoles, we are diversifying our supply chain. For consoles, we have already moved production. If we include peripherals, the shift out of China will be completed by the end of the first half. Hardware sold in the U.S. is now sourced from outside China,” says Sony.

Through this strategy, Sony claims it expects less damage from tariffs imposed by Donald Trump.

However, the impact persists. Sony originally anticipated a 100 billion yen (US$680 million) hit to operating income but now expects a 70 billion yen (US$476 million) impact—a 30 billion yen (US$204 million) reduction.

The diminished impact stems primarily from Sony’s measures to diversify its supply chain and stockpile strategic items like PS5 consoles.
