According to Insider Gaming, the PlayStation 6 is expected to feature a removable disc drive when the console launches.
Much like the existing PS5 Slim and PS5 Pro models, the removable disc drive is an approach PlayStation adopted to reduce production and shipping costs.
For the next generation, multiple Insider Gaming sources—who chose to remain anonymous as they’re not authorized to discuss company plans—confirmed that the removable disc drive is here to stay.
Similar to the PS5 and its removable drive, consumers will be able to purchase the console standalone as a digital edition, buy a bundle with the disc drive included, or upgrade later by purchasing the removable disc drive separately.
The PS6 has not been officially announced by Sony, nor does it have a confirmed release date.
