Romero Games Confirms Studio Is Not Shut Down After Funding Cut

Last week, Romero Games announced it lost its funding. A former employee claimed this was due to Microsoft’s budget cuts.

Some of these ex-employees who lost their jobs claimed the studio had been shut down. However, Romero Games released a statement today clarifying this isn’t true.

We want to address recent reports about Romero Games’ status. These reports contained inaccuracies, and we consider it important to set the record straight.

• Funding for our project was cut and the game was canceled.
• Due to confidentiality agreements, we cannot disclose the publisher’s identity, though some might infer it from public information.
• As a result, we now need to reassess our entire studio team.
• Romero Games is not closed, and we’re doing everything possible to ensure this doesn’t happen. Any suggestion otherwise is factually incorrect. In fact, we were at the studio today discussing next steps with the team.
• We’ve been contacted by multiple publishers interested in helping us get the game across the finish line, and we’re evaluating these opportunities.
