Sonic Team Has No Plans For Sonic Adventure Remake or Remaster

Sonic Team has no plans to release a remake or remaster of Sonic Adventure or Sonic Adventure 2.

Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka was asked about revisiting the games in an interview with Shacknews (via Nintendo Everything). Iizuka believes it would require enormous effort to elevate the experience to modern “standards and expectations” – comparable to developing a brand-new title. Therefore, he feels creating a new game makes more sense.

Iizuka stated the following when asked about a potential Sonic Adventure remake/remaster:

I hear this often. I’m truly grateful to everyone who loves the Sonic Adventure series, but when I consider what it would take to elevate this game to the standards and expectations modern gamers desire, I believe it would require as much time and energy as developing an entirely new title. Part of me thinks perhaps I should just create a completely new game instead, which is why there are no current plans.

This stance actually differs from Iizuka’s previous comments. Though stated years ago, he had shown interest in a remake as it would allow him to smooth out the game’s rough edges.

Iizuka has also shown interest in creating Sonic Adventure 3. However, it remains unclear whether this is still something he wishes to pursue.
