Surprising: Nintendo-Owned Company Worked on Death Stranding 2 PS5

Nintendo’s visual content company, Nintendo Pictures, worked on Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, the game’s PS5 credits reveal (via VGC).

Nintendo Pictures is a computer-generated graphics animation and motion capture company based in Tokyo, Japan. Nintendo acquired the company, then known as Dynamo Pictures, in 2022 and renamed it to “focus on developing visual content using Nintendo’s intellectual property.”

As Dynamo Pictures, Nintendo Pictures produced CG for various films and TV programs. The company also handled CG work for games like Final Fantasy XIII-2 and provided motion capture for NieR Replicant, Monster Hunter World, and Persona 5.

Aside from Death Stranding 2, Nintendo Pictures has exclusively worked on Nintendo games since the 2022 acquisition, including The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Pikmin 4, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Super Mario RPG, and Another Code: Recollection.

Though the appearance of a Nintendo-owned company in a PS5 game’s credits may seem surprising, the studio (as Dynamo Pictures) also contributed to the original Death Stranding. This suggests their involvement in Death Stranding 2 likely predated Nintendo’s acquisition or stemmed from a pre-existing contract.

In the business sectors listed on its website, the company separates “motion capture recording services” from Nintendo IP video production, indicating potential ongoing work on non-Nintendo game projects. Nintendo Pictures has contributed to several non-Nintendo animation productions since 2022.
