Speaking with Giant Bomb during EVO 2025 (via Push Square), producer Riichiro Yamada stated there are no plans for crossovers in the new Virtua Fighter.
Yamada explained that development is currently focused on expanding Virtua Fighter‘s world and lore, so the team isn’t actively considering guest characters at this time.
“The Virtua Fighter series has historically lacked deep narrative and backstory. None of that was really included in the games, so I felt we needed to emphasize this aspect heavily in the new project,” Yamada stated.
However, he clarified that while this isn’t under current consideration, it’s something the developer may explore post-launch. Beyond third-party franchises, SEGA’s own titles like Like a Dragon and Shenmue (the latter essentially born as a Virtua Fighter RPG) fit thematically. Notably, Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown previously featured Like a Dragon and even Tekken costumes.
